Sweet Potatoes...or are they Yams?

Since we had dabbled in rice cereal a few times before we know Em liked it and her system tolerated it. So, to start off her solid food experience I made her sweet potatoes. Yes, that is right I am trying to make my own baby food or, at least for the most part. Today I went and picked up jars of the stuff that I thought would be hard to make into baby food (green beans, peas, etc).

Here are some pictures of Em's first sweet potato experience.

Not too sure.

Not a fan.
Looking at Gram, "Do I really have to eat this?"

Maybe it isn't that bad.

Ok, it is pretty good.

Big Baby

I know I have said it several times before but, Em is a big baby. She had her 6 month appointment on Friday. She was so funny flirting with her doctor. And, I am happy to report she only cried for about a second when she got her shots.

So, her stats...she is off the chart. Literally, she no longer fits on the growth curve. She weighs 22 lbs 6 oz and is 27 3/4 inches long. So, in the first 6 months of her life Em has grown 8 inches and gained 13 lbs. For a girl of her age, she is well above the 95th percentile. The doctor said she is the size of a one year old. I am sure she will slow down soon...I hope!

A funny little note. The other day we went to lunch with my parents to one of our favorite hamburger joints...Whole in the Wall. Whole in the Wall is not for the faint at heart. This place is as seedy looking as they come but, one of the best burgers you will ever have. Oh, and the fresh cut french fries...yum. My family has been going there for over 35 years. So the other day was Em's first time. Well, the lady behind the counter gave me a tongue lashing. She wanted to know why I didn't bring Em by when she was little. I looked at her and said she still is little. I said she was only 6 months. The lady looked at me and said, "Oh, what have you been feeding her...my burgers." I couldn't help but laugh because, Em doesn't look like a little baby anymore.

6 Months!!!

That is right all, Emeline has made it to the 6 month mark. I guess Justin and I actually can parent; she has made it this far alive.

We have her 6 month portraits scheduled for Saturday, so as soon as I get those pictures I will post them! Happy Half Year Birthday Emmers!!!

Scrunchy Face

The past week Em has been making this new face. She scrunches up her nose and breathes through it. The first time she did it, I did it back and now she does it all the time. Justin can't do it so, this must be something she got from me. I think it is cute but, she is starting to do it to show her displeasure with something. For instance, she is bored, frustrated or tired. Here is a little video.

Spike

Em's hair is finally coming in! Just in the past week the amount of hair has doubled. Sometimes it is strawberry blond and sometimes a dirty blond. We are also brushing the hair more. Her hair grows from back to front. Well, the other day I brushed it from front to back and this is the result.

I did not use any product to create this look. In fact, the do stayed put until her next bath. Punk rockers across the world eat your heart out.

Catching Up

The Dillard family has been very busy. First, with Justin's b-day (I forgot to take pictures!!!!), then a trip to Houston, then Easter and hosting a Shower for Erin (our soon-to-be sister-in-law). So, here is a quick catch up post.

Em is doing good. Still our big, happy girl. She has a few new tricks that I need to get video of. We are going to start solid foods this weekend. I don't who is more excited Em or Gram. I am also excited to go back to the doctor to find out just how "big" our big girl is.

For Easter this year we went to Good Friday Service and then Justin and I helped out in the nursery on Easter Sunday. Below are the pics of Em's church outfits that weekend.

Good Friday

Easter Sunday. Thank you to Rob and Felicia for my pretty dress.

Sharon and Drew came to the shower we had for Erin. Em and Drew visited for sometime. Oh, young love (Justin hates when I say that). I do know that these two will be good friends.
